Pushkar Lake Pushkar

This lake is well located at the edge of the desert and is surrounded by the hills from the three sides. This lake separates Pushkar from Ajmer in association with the snake mountain 'Nag Parvat'.

The legend associated with the Pushkar city says that Lord Brahma coined this place when he was looking for a place for conducting a 'Yagya'. It is said that the Pushkar Lake originated from the lotus flower, which slipped from his hand and fell on the hill. Therefore the Brahma temple situated here is also quite famous as a pilgrimage destination amongst Hindus. The Panchkund and the cave of the saint Agastya are also there on this mountain.

Brahma Temple Pushkar

The only temple dedicated to Lord Brahma in India dates back to 14th century. The belief related to this one and only Brahma temple in India is that when Lord Brahma has to start the 'Yagya' at Pushkar, his wife Savitri was not there so he started the rituals on time without Savitri. Savitri got annoyed by his act and told that he (Brahma) would be worshipped only at Pushkar and nowhere else.

Pushkar Fair Pushkar

The famous Pushkar Fair is held annually in Pushkar in the month of Kartik. All the tourists attend the fair, where they can purchase camels, camel ride, cattle fair and bullock races. The roads from the fair lead to the Pushkar Lake flooded by the pilgrims. The tourists can stay at the tourist village set up by the Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation (RTDC) during the Pushkar Fair.
